I had a panic attack today at a restaurant. Before I knew it this overwhelming feeling felt like it was taking over my body and mind. Luckily, I have a lot of practice with Breathwork and immediately I started to take deep belly breaths and long exhales out of my mouth.
To further support my body and help me process this trauma, I incorporated bilateral stimulation to my breathing, a technique I learned from my EMDR therapist. This is achieved through stimulating the left and right sides of the brain rhythmically, something you can do with simple actions like tapping your knees in an alternating pattern.
We all experience overwhelm at some point. There is no shame in how our body reacts to it. But it is important to learn how regulate ourselves.
Save this video to remind you how to breathe when you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious.
