EP 73: Guided Meditation for Calming Anxiety and Fear in Chaotic Times
Hello, friend! Welcome back to another session of Breathe More. In these times of uncertainty, I want to invite you to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. So, let’s start with a few deep breaths together. Inhale deeply through your nose... and exhale.
Let’s do that again. Deep breath in... and out.
One more time. Inhale... and exhale.
Thank you for taking this moment to breathe with me. I feel that now, more than ever, we truly need to breathe more. With the recent election and the emotions swirling in our communities, many of us are feeling heartbroken, devastated, and afraid of what lies ahead. Our bodies are reacting to this tension, and our nervous systems are on high alert.
It’s almost as if we were already living in a state of anxiety, and the events around us have only intensified it. As we find ourselves navigating this turbulent landscape, I want to offer you comfort and share a free meditation that can help calm your body and mind.
We have recently emerged from a pandemic that triggered so many of us. After starting to feel a little more stable, we now face uncertainties once again. It’s crucial to acknowledge that while some of you have taken this as an opportunity for deep healing, many are still grappling with the chaos around them. The results of this election—be it presidential or local propositions—highlight that our nervous systems are not regulated. They reflect our fears, our feelings of scarcity, and the panic that is palpable in our society.
Through my work, I strive to hold space for my clients, using the breath as a powerful tool for regulation and empowerment. My goal is to help you reclaim your power and recognize what you can control in these chaotic times. Even when it feels like everything is out of control, I want you to remember that you have the ability to connect with your truth, your voice, your magic, and your gifts.
When we use our tools to regulate our emotions, we can take a pause before reacting. This allows us to respond from a place of clarity rather than fear. It’s about doing the deep healing work so that the parts of ourselves that feel wounded—our inner child, our teenage self, our younger selves—can feel safe, protected, and loved by the empowered adult we are today.
Now, let’s take a moment for reflection. How are you truly feeling in this moment? I encourage you to be honest with yourself. A significant part of the healing journey I guide my clients through is about embodying, expressing, and connecting with the stronger emotions that we might be suppressing.
Recently, I had the privilege of hosting a retreat in Joshua Tree for a group of women—some familiar with my work, and others just beginning their journey. It was fascinating to observe how the newcomers struggled to articulate their feelings. Many were going through intense, traumatic situations, and as I connected with their energy, I sensed a lot of pent-up rage that yearned to be expressed. Yet, when I brought it up, they often dismissed it, saying they felt merely frustrated.
This, my friends, is the essence of our work. It’s vital to go deeper, to create space for those emotions, and to process them. If we don’t, we risk allowing our inner child and teenage selves—still trapped in trauma—to make decisions for us in the present.
So now that you’ve acknowledged how you’re feeling, let’s dive deeper. Where in your body are these emotions residing? Can you locate where grief, anger, or sadness is held? Are there parts of you that feel frozen or are beginning to shut down? I see so many people disassociating when things become scary, opting to leave their bodies and ignore their feelings.
While I believe in protecting our energy and setting boundaries, it’s also important to recognize what can’t be ignored. What is your body holding right now? As you start to connect and identify these sensations and emotions, allow your body to move—roll your shoulders, shake your hands. This movement is crucial for releasing the energy and emotions, preventing them from manifesting as physical pain or disease.
Once you’ve identified these emotions, can you recognize which part of yourself feels unsafe or needs support? Is it your inner child yearning for love and safety? Your rebellious teenage self? Or perhaps a voice from your past that’s been dominating your decision-making?
Take a moment to reflect on this. Once you identify that inner part, ask yourself: what do they need from you? What can you provide to help them feel loved, safe, and protected? Imagine communicating this to them—speak it out loud if you feel comfortable.
And let’s anchor back in with our breath: a deep inhale... and exhale. Reconnect with your power and remember what you are in control of.
Sometimes, tapping into that inner fire and even the rage can be beneficial. It can fuel us to take action and feel empowered in the process. This awareness and self-coaching are essential tools I teach my clients. They enable us to respond thoughtfully instead of reactively, which will be crucial as we navigate the coming years.
To further support you in finding calm, I’d like to invite you to participate in a guided meditation that will help soothe your body and spirit. If you’re in a place to do so, I encourage you to get comfortable, perhaps even lying down to truly relax as you listen.
Listen to meditation here.
I hope this moment of rest brings you peace. After listening to the meditation, I trust you’ll feel calmer, clearer, and more relaxed. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. I am here for you, and I have many resources available to help you navigate these times.
It’s essential to surround yourself with people who make you feel safe and trusted. If you find yourself in need of extra support, I’m accepting a few one-on-one clients before the end of the year. If that resonates with you, book a free call so we can connect and explore what might be ready to heal in your life.
Sending you so much love and peace.
